it's actually so bad that I express deeper opinions on politics and religion on another messageboard, far away from the group of people called "Action Figure Collectors"
there was so much I wanted to say about various subjects, but the "them versus us" mentality plus the fuck-all state of mind of some surprisingly insular people made me think otherwise.
you can forget free speech because there's always a reactionary motherfucker wanting to pound you into the concrete because you dare to oppose his opinion.
The tomato worm is just a lowly insect trying to provide for it's future family.
The farmer only sees some pest trying to destroy his crops.
Can these two agree to disagree?
Another of those rare occasions where Peter and I actually agree, sorta, kinda.
I grew up in a house where conflict was constant. We argued politics, religion, sports, you name it. It was part of our regular discussion pattern, and I never got upset or frustrated.
However, lots of folks don't like conflict. Our society seems more and more bent on getting rid of any conflict, along with anger, which is too bad. Without conflict and anger, there is no change, and we all turn into very safe, very secure sheep, penned up in our little cubicles making somebody else rich. But I digress [img]wink.gif[/img]
Of course, when it comes to boards, it probably is a good idea to keep toy areas free of politics and religion. However, if you can set up an area dedicated to discussing it, I don't see why not - let 'em go at it!
Over at SCS, I've always had troubles with how tight they moderate the boards. I understand their desire to do it, and I have to admit that it's kept things very civil and friendly - but it rubs the independent in me the wrong way.

Talk all the politics/religon you want, just keep it cival.

People just being reactionary; knee jerk; confrontational - without real thought or purpose. It is one thing to have debate and intelligent exchange of ideas, even if heated, it is entirely another to have someone being contrary just for the sake of being contrary.Quote:

And it seems all too often the loudest "debaters" are really just shit stirrers who think it's cute and clever to run around playing devil's advocate and showing what "free thinkers" they are because they refuse to acknowledge "the rules" (aka what most of us consider common decency/respect/being civil).
